On determining CKM angles α and β

چکیده

Because the B d → J/ψK S asymmetry determines only sin 2β, a discrete ambiguity in the true value of β remains. This note reviews how the ambiguity can be removed. Extractions of the CKM angle α are discussed next. Some of the methods require very large data samples and will not be feasible in the near future. In the near future, semi-inclusive CP-violating searches could be undertaken, which are reviewed last. The primary goal of the various B-factories is to test most incisively the standard CKM (Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa) [1] description of CP violation. For that purpose, the CKM angle β extraction via the " golden " B d → J/ψK S asymmetry [2] can be contrasted to those via the B → φK S , η ′ K S , DD, D 0 CP ρ 0 , etc. asymmetries. Any significant discrepancy in the measured β values indicates physics beyond the standard model [3]. The CKM predictions can be tested more incisively by removing discrete CKM ambiguities. The CP-violating asymmetry of B d → J/ψK S allows the determination of sin 2β [2, 4]. A discrete ambiguity in determining β ∈ [0, 2π) remains. Measuring cos 2β removes the ambiguity partially and can be accomplished, either by (a) correlating B s (t) → J/ψφ with B d (t) → J/ψ(π 0 K S) K * [B d (t) → J/ψρ 0 ] decays [5]. (b) studying the decay-time (t K) of the produced neutral kaon [6, 7] in the process B d (t) → J/ψ (−)

The CKM Matrix and The Unitarity Triangle: Another Look

The unitarity triangle can be determined by means of two measurements of its sides or angles. Assuming the same relative errors on the angles (α, β, γ) and the sides (Rb, Rt), we find that the pairs (γ, β) and (γ,Rb) are most efficient in determining ( ̺̄, η̄) that describe the apex of the unitarity triangle. They are followed by (α, β), (α,Rb), (Rt, β), (Rt, Rb) and (Rb, β). As the set |Vus|, |Vc...

Angles of the Ckm Unitarity Triangle Measured at Belle

The Belle experiment has used several methods to measure or constrain the angles φ 1 , φ 2 , and φ 3 (or β, α, and γ) of the CKM unitarity triangle.

Measurement of the CKM Angles at BaBar and Belle

The primary goal of the BaBar and Belle experiments is to overconstrain the CKM Unitarity Triangle. Measurements of the angles of this triangle, known as β, α, and γ (or φ1, φ2, and φ3) give insight into the Standard Model description of CP violation in the quark sector. BaBar and Belle have recorded almost 1 ab−1 combined, and have measured β to high precision. Measurements of α and γ are less...

Measurements of CKM angles β/φ1 and α/φ2 at the BABAR and Belle experiments

CP violation in the Standard Model (SM) [1] is described by an irreducible complex phase in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) quark-mixing 3 × 3 matrix [2]. The equation VudV ⋆ ub + VcdV ⋆ cb + VtdV ⋆ tb = 0, which follows from the unitarity of the CKM matrix V , can be depicted as a triangle – called the Unitarity Triangle (UT) – in the complex plane [3]. The main goal of the B-factories is ...

Determining the phases α and γ from time - dependent CP violation in B 0 decays to ρ ( ω ) + pseudoscalar

A method is proposed for the determination of the unitarity angle α through tree penguin interference. The modes needed would be of the form B/B 0 → ρM and B/B 0 → ωM where M is spin-0 uu/dd meson, for instance M = π, η, η, a0 or f0. An analogous method can also determine γ using M = KS or KL. The validity of the theoretical approximations used may be tested by over determining α with several m...
